The International Conference on Employer Support for Reserves took place in Rotterdam from the 6th to the 8th October 2016.
I attended this conference in my capacity as Chairman of the New Zealand Territorial Employers' Support Council.
At a Mayoral reception on the second evening of the conference I was introduced the Deputy Mayor or Rotterdam, Maarten Struijvenberg. We discussed the rebuild of Rotterdam after it was obliterated by bombs in May 1940. Rotterdam is now a beautiful, well-functioning city supporting the eighth largest port in the world.
The deputy mayor was very interested in the rebuild of Christchurch and offered to support us where needed by "opening doors" in his city.
A serendipitous meeting that could introduce new thinking into Christchurch.

The Chamber Board elections are well underway with voting closing on 13 October at 5.00pm.
The Chamber is proud of the
robust democratic process around the election of its Board. It is worth
remembering that the Chamber belongs to its members and the
members determine the governance of the organisation.
We have for many years had in place a simple electronic voting mechanism provided by electionz.com which is very informative and user friendly. Eligible member organisations will have received an email from electionz.com on Monday 21 September with their unique identification number (PIN) and password. For details on voting please click here.
The results of the election will be announced at the Annual General Meeting to be held at 4:00pm on Wednesday 14 October at the Isaac Theatre Royal. The guest speaker Phil O'Reilly, BusinessNZ Chief Executive, will discuss the relevance and importance of regional business support organisations in the context of the fast changing New Zealand economy.
